Engineering applicants must sit the maths and physics placement tests before course registration. Applicants who miss the maths or science minimum may be conditionally accepted through bridging courses, subject to approval by the admissions office.

Psychology applicants sit the maths placement test before course registration, and RIT Dubai states that meeting the minimum requirement does not guarantee direct admission because the placement score is also weighed. New media design applicants sit the maths placement test only if they want to take maths electives.

A bachelor's degree, or the US equivalent, granted by an accredited college or university, held or in progress. Original transcripts must be submitted for evaluation with a certified English translation where required. Applicants should meet the standard RIT requirement of approximately a B average, 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, in undergraduate study; applicants below 3.0 may be offered conditional admission. Engineering master's applicants need an undergraduate degree in the same or a closely related engineering discipline; MS Organizational Leadership and Innovation applicants need a solid educational or employment record in any field.

TOEFL 550 paper-based, 213 computer-based or 79 internet-based; or IELTS Band 6.5, with 6.0 accepted for the professional studies programmes; or EmSAT 1550, with 1400 accepted for the professional studies programmes. Students who completed all of their K-12 schooling and a bachelor's degree in English in a reference English-speaking country may be exempt. IELTS Indicator, Duolingo, IELTS General Training, PTE Academic and home-based TOEFL are not accepted.

Applicants must submit a resume evidencing professional work experience in the desired area of study, two letters of recommendation and a personal statement describing their educational objectives. TOEFL and IELTS scores are valid for two years and EmSAT scores for eighteen months. Final admission decisions are made by the RIT Graduate Department in Rochester, New York.
