About This Programme

New Media Design sits where visual communication, design strategy and user experience design meet. New media now covers anything that brings together communication, computing and technology, from social media and streaming services to wearables, virtual and augmented reality, and gaming. Students explore visual design, user experience design, interaction, motion graphics and technology to create engaging interactive media. The four-year, 122-credit sequence moves from drawing and 2D and 4D design through interactive, 3D, animation, graphical user interface and motion graphics courses, and the fourth year includes a two-part capstone.

Entry Requirements

Academic: Minimum overall result by curriculum: UAE Elite 70%, Advanced 70%, General 75%; American, SABIS or Canadian 70% with SAT Math 450 as a Ministry of Education equivalency requirement (no SAT for the Canadian curriculum); French 10/20; Pakistan or India 60%.
A Level: At least five IGCSEs at grade C or above and two AS Levels or one A Level at grade D, completion of Grade 12 or Year 13, and a minimum average of 70%.
IB Diploma: Minimum 24 points.
English: Full admission: Academic IELTS 6.5 or above, TOEFL ITP 550, TOEFL iBT 79 or EmSAT English 1550. Conditional admission: IELTS 5.0 to 6.0, TOEFL ITP 500 to 547, TOEFL iBT 61 to 78 or EmSAT English 1100 to 1525. IELTS Indicator, Duolingo, IELTS General Training, PTE Academic and home-based TOEFL are not accepted. TOEFL and IELTS scores are valid for two years and EmSAT scores for 18 months.

The maths placement test is optional, for students who want to take maths electives.

Accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD): its register lists the four-year Bachelor of Fine Arts in New Media Design at RIT's Dubai campus, with RIT's most recent comprehensive review in 2025 and the next scheduled for 2034-2035. Applications for the Spring and Fall 2027 intakes are open and are reviewed on a rolling basis. Spring: early admission until 31 October, regular admission until 31 December, deadline 8 January. Fall: early admission until 15 January, regular admission until 31 May, deadline 22 August. RIT Dubai offers scholarships of up to 50% based on academic and non-academic achievements.
