1. Dubai College
Dubai College has been the benchmark British school in Dubai since it opened in 1978. It remains the most consistently academic school in the city, with A-Level results that rival top UK grammar schools and a reputation for placing students at Oxford, Cambridge, and the Russell Group. It is rated Outstanding by KHDA.
Expect a traditional academic atmosphere, selective entry, and extremely competitive admissions. If your child thrives on challenge and you are planning for a top UK university, it is the gold standard.
2. Jumeirah College
Jumeirah College is a GEMS school and secondary-only, running from Year 7 to Year 13. It is one of the most academically consistent schools in the city, holds Outstanding in KHDA inspections, and places students at leading UK and US universities every year. Its feeder is GEMS Jumeirah Primary School, which supplies the large majority of each Year 7 intake.
Entry is competitive and the ethos is firmly academic. It is often compared with Dubai College, but the two are unconnected: Dubai College is an independent non-profit, not part of GEMS.
3. Jumeirah English Speaking School (JESS)
JESS runs two campuses: Al Safa (primary only) and Arabian Ranches (primary plus secondary). Both are Outstanding rated. JESS is known for a warm community feel, strong pastoral care, and high-quality teaching at every stage. Its secondary campus runs the IB Diploma in sixth form, with IB Career-related and BTEC routes alongside it rather than A-Levels.

4. Kings' School Al Barsha
Kings' Al Barsha is the flagship campus of the Kings' family. It combines strong academics with superb facilities and a modern approach to learning. The school has achieved Outstanding ratings and is known for excellent music, drama, and sport alongside its academic results.

5. Repton School Dubai
Repton is the UAE satellite of the historic English public school of the same name. 6. Brighton College Dubai
Brighton College Dubai is the sister school of the top-ranked English independent school in Brighton, UK. The Dubai campus opened in 2018 and quickly established a reputation for strong academics and a focus on character education. KHDA currently rates it Very Good.

7. GEMS Wellington International School
Wellington International is a very large, well-established school on Sheikh Zayed Road. It has been Outstanding rated for many years and offers both A-Levels and the IB Diploma in its sixth form. With a student population of about 2,900, it is one of the largest schools in Dubai and not for families who want an intimate environment, but the range of academic, sporting, and creative opportunities is unmatched.
8. GEMS Royal Dubai School
Royal Dubai School punches well above its weight. KHDA currently rates it Very Good, and it remains the most affordable school on this list, with strong foundational teaching and a warm atmosphere that parents consistently praise.
Long a primary-only school, it is now growing a secondary phase: Year 7 opened in August 2024 and the school has been adding a year group each September since. Check how far that provision has reached before assuming your child can stay through to sixth form.
9. Dubai British School Emirates Hills
Part of the Taaleem group, Dubai British School Emirates Hills is a popular, family-oriented through-school. It consistently achieves Outstanding ratings and offers a full British curriculum from FS1 to Year 13. The Emirates Hills campus is particularly well-regarded for its community feel.
It is a strong all-rounder without the hyper-competitive edge of some of the more selective options.
10. Horizon English School
Horizon English School is a primary-only school that has been Outstanding rated continuously for years. It is small, calm, and deeply respected by families who prioritise high-quality teaching and close pastoral care in the early years.
Like Royal Dubai, a secondary move is needed at the end of Year 6, but Horizon consistently prepares children exceptionally well for transition.
