GEMS Royal Dubai School

Founded in 2005 and operated by GEMS Education, GEMS Royal Dubai School (RDS) is a British curriculum school in Al Mizhar 1, close to Mirdif. It follows the National Curriculum for England and, having added Year 7 in 2024-25 and Year 8 in 2025-26, welcomes its first Year 9 cohort in 2026-27 as it grows towards Year 13. Its January 2026 British Schools Overseas inspection judged the school outstanding in all eight inspection judgements, and KHDA rated it Very Good in 2023-24 with Outstanding for inclusive education. More than 75% of students achieve above curriculum standards in English, mathematics and science assessments, and at the end of Key Stage 2 the school reports 91% in reading and 89% in writing. A new purpose-built Secondary campus a short distance from the current site is due to open in January 2027. RDS was named GEMS School of the Year 2025.

Fees are the school's own published schedule for 2026/27. Foundation Stage to Year 6 are billed at the KHDA-approved figure with no discount. Years 7 to 9 carry a discount the school applies to every pupil: 20% off the first term, which brings the year from AED 76,762 to AED 70,622. Billed in three terms, with the first the largest. Year 9 is the top year group in 2026/27 - the school added Year 7 in 2024-25 and has been growing a year at a time towards Year 13, with a secondary campus due to open in January 2027. Sibling discounts of 10%, 15% and 25% apply from the third child. Uniform, lunches, transport and learning support are charged separately.

KHDA 2023–2024 inspection
EYFS delivered by British-trained teachers, rated Outstanding by KHDA in 2023-24 for progress in English, mathematics and science and for attainment in mathematics and science. BSO found 80% of children reach a Good Level of Development against an England average of 67%. The wider curriculum includes Arabic, swimming and access to outdoor play areas.
National Curriculum for England across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, rated Very Good by KHDA in 2023-24 for attainment and progress in English, mathematics and science. More than 75% of students achieve above curriculum standards; at the end of Key Stage 2 the school reports 91% in reading and 89% in writing. Arabic A and Arabic B are taught separately from Year 1.
Key Stage 3, launched with Year 7 in 2024-25, Year 8 in 2025-26 and Year 9 in 2026-27, growing towards Year 13. A small secondary phase by international standards, with subject-specialist teaching, leading to GCSE, IGCSE and BTEC Level 2 choices from Year 10 and A Level or BTEC Level 3 in Post-16. A purpose-built Secondary campus is due to open in January 2027.

Principal/CEO
Jan Steel was appointed Principal/CEO of GEMS Royal Dubai School in the summer of 2022, having first joined GEMS Education in 2016. She previously held senior leadership positions at GEMS Jumeirah Primary School, GEMS Metropole School - Motor City and GEMS Wellington International School, and has driven school improvement across all age ranges in both the UK and the UAE.
