4-year Engineering Doctorate (EngD) in Energy — industrially embedded research doctorate equivalent to a PhD in intellectual rigor but with an industrial focus. 80% industry / 20% university split. Multiple intakes: September, January, May. Programme structure: Years 1-2 = 60 credits per year of SCQF Level 11 taught courses (evening delivery, 120 credits total) + research project work; Years 3-4 = full-time applied research culminating in EngD Thesis or Portfolio submission. Available taught courses include: Foundations of Energy, Renewable Energy Technologies, Advanced Renewable Energy Engineering, Electrical Power Systems, Heat Transfer & Heat Exchangers, Demand Management & Energy Storage, Economics of Renewable Energy, Environmental Impact Assessment, Technology Future & Business Strategy. Research focus: interrelated, globally critical areas of engineering and energy aligned with the industrial partner's strategic plans; spans renewable and non-renewable technologies. Entry: graduates with physical sciences or engineering degrees, currently working in industry OR positioned to facilitate knowledge transfer from Heriot-Watt to industry. Industrial sponsor required (explicit requirement of the EngD model). Tuition AED 65,676/year full-time (incl. VAT) — same as EngD Construction. Self-funded; competitive scholarships available. Supervision: academic supervisor from university faculty + industrial sponsor expertise. Distinct from EngD Construction (different sector focus) and from PhD Electrical Engineering / PhD Energy, Geoscience, Infrastructure and Society (those are academic PhDs without the mandatory industrial sponsor requirement).
