About This Programme

This program, the first of its kind in the region, bridges leadership and medical education to prepare healthcare professionals and educators to excel as leaders in shaping the future of health professions education. Participants develop expertise in evidence-based teaching, research, change management, and innovation, driving meaningful advancements in their institutions. The program is delivered jointly by expert faculty from the University of Sharjah and the University of Dundee (United Kingdom). Faculty members bring diverse expertise and global perspectives, ensuring a rich and dynamic learning environment. Year 1, First Semester

0900719Planning Educational Programs4 credits
To examine curriculum designs that incorporate academic staff, students, and other stakeholder needs. The principles of outcomes-based education will be examined and how this impact on the design of modules, units and lessons. It will also emphasize for meeting diverse student needs and developing a global perspective in planning programs.

To examine teaching and learning methods/strategies, which are evidence-based, and which encourage students to take responsibility for their learning, preparing them for lifelong, self-directed learning.
0900721Supervising Healthcare Professionals4 credits
To explore teaching and supervising in the clinical setting and the stages involved in moving from novice to expert. The module also explores the role of the supervisor/mentor including supervision, 360-degree assessment in real authentic clinical settings, giving constructive feedback and counseling. The module will examine stress in the workplace, job management, and graduate/ student support matters.

Year 1, Second Semester

To explore assessment principles, methods and practices and their Compatibility with educational objectives to promote learning. Aspects such as reliability, validity; feasibility; standard setting and examiner training will be explored. Constructing effective tests and assessing competence, using tools such as written tests, clinical performance assessments, and student portfolios will be examined.

To focus on the important understanding of the various leadership and governance styles necessary to support and sustain curriculum reform in the health education setting.

To critically appraise research and evaluation literature of health professions' education before formulating research and evaluation questions for a program that they are involved in teaching.

You will gain expertise in conducting educational research, contributing to the scholarship of teaching and learning, and addressing both global trends and regional needs. With guidance from expert faculty, you will be prepared to drive transformative changes in health professions education and create lasting impact in your institution and beyond.

Entry Requirements

Academic: Admission requirements for master programs: • The student must hold a bachelor's degree or equivalent from a recognized university with a CGPA of 3.00 out of 4.00. • Students with a CGPA between 2.5 and 2.99 may be admitted conditionally. • The degree must be in a major that qualifies the student to study the master's program. • Students must meet the English language proficiency requirement. • Attachment of ‘no objection of study certificate’ from the authorities responsible for national service for male Emirati students (ages from 18 to 30 years old). • Attachment of a letter of study approval from the Kuwait Embassy Cultural Office for Kuwaiti students only. • Attachment of People of Determination card (if applicable). • In case the student works in a certain place, please attach a letter from the employer stating that the student is working for this agency. • For individuals with foreign qualifications, it is necessary to provide a Certificate of Equivalency.

English: For programs taught in English, a score of 550 in TOEFL (ITP) (or its equivalence), or 6 in IELTS must be obtained. Native English speakers are exempt from the English proficiency requirement if the language of instruction for their undergraduate studies was English. Additionally, students who graduated from academic institutions where English is used as the primary medium of instruction for bachelor’s studies are also exempt. Equivalent scores (EmSAT / paper-based TOEFL ITP / IELTS academic): 950-1075 / 450 / 4.5; 1100-1225 / 500 / 5.0; 1250-1375 / 530 / 5.5; 1400-1525 / 550 / 6.0. The paper-based TOEFL ITP is offered only by the University of Sharjah, AMIDEAST Dubai, and Abu Dhabi head offices. The UoS reserves the right to require students to attend an interview in the Languages Institute. Students may be required to take a further in-house test to ensure their scores are consistent with their English Language proficiency.
