About This Programme

Engineering applied to biology and medicine, from devices to biomaterials.

Course Highlights

  • Engineering applied to biology, medicine and healthcare
  • Labs across biomechanics, bioimaging, bioinstrumentation and biomaterials
  • Pathways into medical devices, biotech, research and medical school

What You'll Study

Studied full-time over four years on the Saadiyat Island campus. Students complete the NYUAD Core Curriculum, a shared engineering foundation, major and elective coursework, may study away for up to two semesters across NYU's global network, and finish with a two-semester Senior Design Capstone.

Engineering Core

A foundation shared by all NYUAD engineering majors across science, mathematics and core engineering skills.

  • Foundations of Science
  • Engineering Mathematics: Calculus, Multivariable Calculus, Linear Algebra, Probability and Statistics, Differential Equations
  • Computer Programming for Engineers
  • Design and Innovation
  • Engineering Statics
  • Digital Logic
  • Numerical Methods
  • Engineering Ethics

Bioengineering Specialisation

Bioengineering applies engineering to biology and medicine across scales, from molecules and cells to prosthetics and medical devices, integrating invention, innovation and entrepreneurship.

  • Bioengineering Principles
  • Biomechanics
  • Biotransport Phenomena
  • Bioimaging
  • Bioinstrumentation
  • Biomaterials
  • Physical Chemistry for the Life Sciences

Senior Capstone

A two-semester design capstone applying the full degree to a real problem.

  • Senior Design Capstone Project I
  • Senior Design Capstone Project II

Careers

Graduates work in management, production and research and development across medical devices, diagnostics, genetics, healthcare, pharmaceuticals and drug discovery, as bio-entrepreneurs commercialising NYU-grown technology, or continue to graduate school, research or medical school.

Accreditation & Professional Recognition

Accredited by the UAE Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA) until 30 September 2027, an action extending retrospectively from 1 May 2022. Unlike NYU Abu Dhabi's other engineering majors, Bioengineering is not ABET-accredited.
