About This Programme

The BSc Computer Science at the University of Birmingham Dubai is a three-year, full-time degree that builds broad skills for careers in a fast-changing digital world. Computing touches everything from phones to aircraft; students develop foundational knowledge and then specialise in their areas of interest, ready for global technology roles. Topics range from AI and algorithms to full-stack app development, covering computational systems, programming languages, software engineering and cyber security, and combining analytical knowledge with technical skills to research and build software for real problems. Teaching takes place on a technology-enhanced campus, jointly by Dubai-based and UK academics, with the chance to work alongside students at the Birmingham campus.

What You'll Study

Teaching combines lectures, practical labs and project work, with lectures from leaders in their fields, tutorials built around discussion, problem-solving and hands-on exercises, one-to-one supervision, and project and lab work that develop critical thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, time management and communication. Each module is assessed separately, some by continuous assessment and some entirely by coursework, using exams, written assignments, presentations, computer tests, exercises and project reports. Feedback comes through written comments, class feedback sessions and discussion with tutors. Students can choose to spend the second year at the Birmingham campus in the UK, subject to academic attainment. The degree develops a disciplined approach to problem-solving, creative solution design and critical evaluation, technical and transferable skills that lead to roles in academia, industry, research and commercial organisations, including engineering, finance, consultancy and commerce. Graduates have gone on to work at Microsoft, Google, Apple, Goldman Sachs, Sony, IBM, Siemens, Honda, JP Morgan, Morgan Stanley and the Bank of England, and roles range from software engineer and developer to robotics engineer and analyst. In Dubai, rapid digitisation and AI-driven automation are creating many openings.

Accreditation & Professional Recognition

Accredited by the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and listed as Active on the Commission for Academic Accreditation register as the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. The programme is also accredited by the British Computer Society (BCS) for 5 years, valid until August 2028.
