About This Programme

MBRU's Graduate Entry Doctor of Medicine is a four-year route into medicine for holders of a bachelor's degree, or equivalent, in a relevant field. It is the graduate entry track of the College of Medicine's MD programme and leads to the Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree, with a curriculum that aims to produce physicians who are scholars, leaders, communicators and collaborators. Phase 1 is an intensive period of basic sciences and the mechanisms of disease, delivered over one extended academic year that includes the summer months on each side. It opens with a six-week, non-credit Integrated Medical Sciences course introducing microbiology, pathology and pharmacology through clinical cases, continues with organ-system courses over two semesters, and ends with a six-week Introduction to Clinical Medicine course that builds consultation, history-taking, examination and clinical reasoning skills through simulation with standardised patients and clinical placements. Phase 2 is three years of clinical exposure in affiliation with local and international healthcare institutions; MBRU's catalog says Years 2, 3 and 4 of this track are like Years 4, 5 and 6 of the six-year MD. Admission requires a bachelor's degree that included science courses, with a minimum cGPA of 3.5, an MCAT score and Multiple Mini Interviews.

The MD aims to graduate competent, safe physicians prepared to pursue postgraduate training, and the final clinical year, like Year 6 of the six-year MD, prepares students to become general medical doctors or candidates for specialist postgraduate (residency) training. MBRU notes that most countries, including the UAE, require medical graduates to complete a one-year structured internship, and says its MD graduates will have satisfied this requirement in the UAE by the end of the programme. It describes postgraduate training positions as limited and competitive, and says it supports graduates in securing them nationally and internationally, including through early career planning, seminars and career events.

The graduate entry track leads to MBRU's Doctor of Medicine degree, which is accredited by the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research through the Commission for Academic Accreditation and listed as Active on its register. MBRU is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools (FAIMER School ID F0004132), whose sponsor notes say MBRU students and graduates are eligible to apply for ECFMG Certification, subject to ECFMG's conditions.
