About This Programme

Research doctorate at the School of Energy, Geoscience, Infrastructure and Society (EGIS). Full-time up to 4 years; part-time also available. Multiple intakes: September, January, May. Four research theme areas: (1) Architectural Engineering — building energy performance, dynamic facades, alternative energy systems, passive cooling, fuel cells, CFD applications, building services in UAE/GCC climates, energy behaviour studies, persuasive technologies, energy harvesting; (2) Construction & Facilities Management — contractor sustainability evaluation, FM performance, quality/risk management, health & safety systems, environmental management, carbon emission management, building information management, passive house technology, lifecycle costing, knowledge management, built environment sustainability; (3) Civil Engineering — transportation engineering, water & environmental engineering, structural engineering, materials, sustainability in civil engineering; (4) Research Institute affiliations — Institute for Infrastructure and Environment, Centre of Excellence in Sustainable Building Design, Institute for Social Policy, Housing, Equalities Research. Identified supervisors: Dr. Olisanwendu Ogwuda (Transportation / Materials); Dr. Rabee Rustum & Professor Wael Mualla (Water & Environmental Engineering); Dr. Mustafa Batikha (Structural Engineering). Entry: typically a Master's degree (or strong upper-second Bachelor's) in a relevant area. Application requires full academic transcripts and certificates, proof of funding/sponsorship, a 3-4 page research proposal (topic, objectives, literature, methodology, theoretical framework, timeline, expected results). IELTS 6.5 (no band below 6.0); pre-sessional English available. Tuition AED 103,480/year full-time (incl. VAT) or AED 51,740/year part-time.
